From noun mud means a clay (water soil; soft wet earth).
From verb mud mean a mire, muck, (soil with muck or mire).
Mud is a combination of clay and water. Some animals live in the mud such as : worms, frogs and snails.
Some animals bathe in the mud, like buffaloes, pigs, to protect them selves from sun.
When the water dried the clay can be used to make ceramics and pots. Potter usually use it to pot from clay. The problem with mud, it is slippery. Now, we still have a problem with mud near Surabaya. It is called Lapindo Disaster.
